Dosing Guidelines

IMPORTANT NOTE:
As a general rule, if a positive response has not been seen within 24-48 hours, please consult with your homeopathic practitioner or your Veterinary Practitioner.

Dosing young animals

Dosing is the same as for adult animals.  Remember that each dose is a message to the body not a mg strength of drug per body weight, as with allopathic medication.  It is easy to dose them with the pillules as they taste nice. Alternatively if you are dosing frequently e.g. diarrhoea – another method might be useful: dissolve 10 pillules in half a glass of cooled, boiled water. Spoon 1 measure of the solution into the animal’s mouth for each dose.  Discard the water after 12 hours.

Stop dosing when symptoms resolve.

Dosing with more than one remedy at a time:

Giving more than 3 remedies at a time is not recommended, as each one is a high potency, combination remedy and we do not want to over stimulate the body by giving too many messages, e.g.  A dog with yellow, thick discharge from ears: alternate otitis/ anti virabac/ muco drainol.

If acute:  alternate half hourly apart x 2 doses of each then hourly apart 2 x doses of each.  When the mucous is clear of colour, remove the anti-virabac and maintain the otitis & muco drainol every 2 hours apart.  Once better give once to three times daily with a 20 min gap in between the 2 remedies.

Mixing the remedies together may well antidote one another, as each remedy sends a specific message of healing to the body. Therefore alternate them or give a gap of 20 min between administering.

The purest method of homeopathic dosing is into a clean mouth, directly from the cap. However with animals, one must be practical and inventive.

Dogs & horses; generally love the sugar based pillules, but one can crush the 5 pillules in a clean cup, add a little water and pour into their mouths.  The remedy is instantaneously absorbed in the buccal mucosa. 10 pillules can be dissolved in a cup of water and then syringed into a cats mouth or 15 pillules dissolved in the animals drinking water.  (Preferably use a plastic bowl)

Frequently asked question

How should homeopathic medication be stored?

Homeopathic medicines should be stored in their original container and not decanted into other containers and should never be mixed with other medication. Being very dilute and thus sensitive, the medicines should be stored in a dry, cool place below 25 degrees centigrade and away from any strong smelling substances such as insect/moth repellents, perfumes and aftershaves, coffee or peppermints. Although perfectly safe, all medicines should be kept out of reach of children.

Is homeopathy safe?

Homeopathy is safe when used appropriately. The remedies themselves are non-toxic and thus are safe for use in breeding, pregnant, lactating and young/new-born animals. When these remedies are used appropriately for acute, self-limiting ailments, there is very little chance of any side effects.

For any treatment to effect a change in an illness, it must have potential power and should therefore be used respectfully.  For any deeper, more chronic treatment, it is thus recommended to consult a Veterinary practitioner.

Is homeopathy slow to work?

In acute conditions, some relief of symptoms is most often experienced within 1- 3 doses and generally always, within 12- 24 hrs.  Chronic conditions may require a little longer for relief to be obtained.

Do homeopathic medicines interact with conventional, allopathic medicines?

Homeopathic medicines will not interact with allopathic/conventional medicines as the both work at different vibrational frequencies. While allopathic drugs treat immediate symptoms effectively, the homeopathic remedies will aid the body in re-balancing and stimulating the intrinsic ability of the body to heal itself. (Enhance the ‘Vital Force’ of the body). Thus they can safely be used in conjunction with allopathic drugs.

What reaction should I expect?

Very often, the first sign is that of an improved mood, followed by an easing of the physical symptoms. Very occasionally, the symptoms may worsen for a short time. (healing crisis – seen in skin conditions sometimes) This can be a good sign that your body is responding to the remedy and stimulating the healing process. The symptoms should subside as the healing begins. If the symptoms do not subside, seek professional advice.

Explanation of homeopathic terms

Pillule - The term refers to the small, round pills used to dose homeopathic medication.

Commonly made from sucrose and shaped like a ball bearing.  The medications are coated on the outside of the pillule. (hence the reason for preferably not handling the pillules)

They are inert “carriers” to transport the active medications, coated on their outsides.

Safety in lactating and young

Homeopathy restores health by stimulating the body's own systems of defence and repair.  This gentle, yet effective healing system is safe for use in young and for pregnant and lactating pets. Each dose is a message to the body to rectify an imbalance rather than an amount of medication.  This explains the initial frequency of dosing.  Once the animal starts to respond, it means it is ‘listening’ to the message of healing and one reduces the frequency of dosing accordingly.   This also explains why dosing is the same for young as for adults.

During pregnancy, and lactating, and young, it is clear that safety is paramount.

The Pegasus remedies are safe in pregnancy and lactation, throughout the range. Whatever symptoms appear, e.g. diarrhoea, colds, coughs, bladder infections, injuries, shock etc. can be treated effectively and safely.

These remedies are indicated for acute, self-limiting ailments, usually resolved in 3-5 days. If further treatment is required consult a homeopathic Vet or Veterinarian.

Dosing: Pups, kittens and young animals.

The remedies are in pillule form, and sweet tasting (‘sugar pillules’), so compliance is good.

Safe – if you remember that each dose of a remedy is a message to the body to heal.

You can’t overdose – the effect is the same whether 5 pillules (normal dose) or 10 pillules are given. Giving more is simply a waste.

Frequency of dosing is the same no matter the weight of the animal.

For frequent/acute dosing – dissolve 10 pillules in half a glass of boiled cooled water and spoon one medicine measure into the animals mouth / or syringe into the mouth. (Discard the water after 12 hours and make a new solution).

Sinus congestion and the’ snotty-nose’ syndrome

Is your pet affected by any of the following symptoms?

watery, burning runny nose, thick mucus blocking the nose

infected sinuses with discoloured, foul smelling mucus blocked ears,

earache, sense of deafness, recurring secondary ear infections

blocked ear/ snotty nose syndrome.

The Pegasus homeopathic remedies can help to relieve all of the above – naturally, safely and effectively.

What is Sinusitis?

Sinuses are air filled cavities in the face that connect with the nasal passages. Sinusitis is an inflammation of these cavities. Swollen membranes obstruct the opening of the cavities creating pressure and pain.

Mucus builds up in the sinuses and if it does not drain, it causes congestive pressure and may become infected.

Causes of sinus inflammation include allergic reactions (grasses, pollens, dust, and pollution), viral or bacterial infections in colds and flu.

“snotty-nose syndrome”

This is a common problem in pets, where the symptoms include post-nasal drip initially, nasal congestion and pain followed by thick mucus which then blocks the nose and Eustachian tubes leading to the ears resulting in painful blocked ears and possible ear infections. Mucus that sits in the tubes and does not drain can easily become infected.  By decongesting and thinning the mucus & keeping the passages clear of mucus, one can avert possible ear problem.  Allergies can be a factor here too, as these may provide the catalyst to the sequence of events leading to the snotty nose syndrome.  By using a combination of the relevant Pegasus remedies listed below, one can effectively treat these conditions and reduce the discomfort they cause.

Pegasus remedies for sinus-related problems:

snuffles complex 12c (Cats) – helps reduce sinus congestion & inflammation, post - nasal drip.  Eases frontal pain & pressure, eases painful blocked ears

muco drainol 30c – helps to drain thick mucus that blocks nose, ears or chest

sting & itch 30c – helps with allergic reaction- itchy or burning

anti-virabac 30c – a homeopathic “antibiotic”, can help with infections, where the mucous has discoloured.

otitis 30c – where ears are affected with a Purulent discharge, causing the dog to shake its ears.

Combining more than one remedy: depending on symptoms (remember to alternate dosing with individual remedy) Hourly is a “go to” standard guideline

snuffles complex 12c  plus  muco drainol 30c for painful congestion with thick mucus- aids drainage of mucus & can prevent secondary infections. For best results it’s recommended that these 2 remedies be used together (alternating the doses),

snuffles complex 12c plus  sting & itch 30c – where sinus is allergenic in nature.

Add muco drainol 30c if mucus is thick. Add otitis 30c if ears are affected (dogs)

Add anti-virabac 30c to any combination as soon as any sign of infection is detected (discoloured mucous & fever).

Warning:
Do not combine more than 3 remedies in a course of treatment
If dosing with more than 1 remedy simultaneously, ALTERNATE them. Stop dosing a remedy once that particular symptom clears but continue with the relevant remedy/s, until that condition is also clear. With each remedy working to bring the body back into balance, healing of the underlying cause is generally achieved.
